If you get a chance, watch Ken Burns National Parks - Americas Best Idea. Great stuff. It's not like it wasn't contested, and is still being contested. Funny but I sort of prefer the National Forests to the National Parks for public lands. They are a lot more hands off. I can't take my dog on leash on trails in National Parks, I can take him off leash in the National Forests. But I've got a sticker on the back of my car "I support ANP (Americas National Parks)". The Republicans would love to get their hands on them!
