Perhaps those ignorant righties realize that scientific theories can't be proven.

Proof is a mathematical, not scientific, concept:

That is why Krugman is having a coronary in today's editorial to which he is not accepting comments. It would be funny if it were not so serious. Maybe it is the one looking at the mirror that has gone off the deep end in despair with the realization that the house of cards is about to collapse.

But then someone from within the NYT is beginning to think for themselves as the punch bowl is drawn away... It must be witchcraft or heresy...

By the recommendations on your post, it appears that this board leans quite left, while the hard working people in the oil & gas business tend to lean quite right.

What a great question. While you are answering it, please let me know why so many on the 'right' continue to view evolution as an unproven "theory". In my view, the strength of the 'right' comes from a core base of people who are generally: 1. Scientifically ignorant. 2. More likely to adopt a literal interpretation of the bible. 3. View the rest of the world as lesser than the US. 4. View the rest of the world as needing to be taught how to be good Christians. 5. View endless US military spending on endless wars as the one and only best means to dominate the rest of the world and teach others what to think and how to behave as god-given mission. 6. And last but not least, the 'right' views themselves as having endless rights and zero responsibilities.

The right is not for small government -- the right is for very large, militaristic Christian government. The right is for sticking future generations with unthinkable bills for the current cost of failed attempts at global military domination.

The 'left' is preoccupied with social issues that they believe can be approached with a shared sense of purpose and some level of shared expense and sacrifice. The right is firmly against any personal sacrifice based on ideas that might undermine the ideology of their 'base' -- the centrality of the male-dominated family and the church. The right is against AGW because it draws attention and resources away from immediate personal consumption.
