I'm ok with removing loopholes (even eager to do so if its in exchange for lower rates), but increasing rates is not removing a loophole.

Also if you only remove the loophole on 0.001% of taxpayers you won't raise a lot. If you remove loopholes more broadly it might be a different story but then you have to chuck the "I would leave rates for 99.999 percent of taxpayers unchanged." claim.
