I don't think the retirement age is determined by "medical prosperity." It is more the faculties that determine when a person needs to retire for a quality old age. I think today a 60 year old is sicker than 60 year old 50 to 70 years ago, thanks to the food industry.

There may be examples of that but I think most statistics suggest that generally people are living weller longer. And if they are sick for whatever reason, they can go on SS disability.

A lot of people don't understand what it means that there are more scientists alive RIGHT NOW than in the entirety of human history. This is one of the results. Some of our "bad" diseases now, people didn't even live long enough to GET in earlier times.
