OT. Yes... After we took out Saddam and should have left the mess to the UN... I think we went to war to keep the price of global oil cheap AND make the war machine that pays for campaigns rich. We could have used the 1.5 trillion dollars to get alternative energy and DRILLING AT HOME going (compromise... save human lives and lose a few fish, birds, seals and otters to a potential oil slick is a DAMNED GOOD TRADE for all the lives lost in the multiple wars..) and since the cost of oil would soar in the short term, we could use the additional savings to subsidize the price of gasoline in the US. Sadly, nobody had the balls to piss off BOTH conservatives and liberals to make us truly energy independent. Very sad in that in 1975 I went to UC to study nuclear engineering to solve the energy crisis with nuclear FUSION but the idiots in government back then didn't want to put any money into the research... it was 30 to 50 yrs away... I went into semiconductors instead (device physics was even more interesting so it worked out well and FAR more profitable) but, sadly, nuclear FUSION is still 30 to 50 years away and all the good, young minds now go to Goldman Sucks to figure out other creative ways to move wealth from the middle class into their pockets..
