In college ('78-'82) we used to drink Genesee Beer and some Rolling Rock. Both companies now are considered major breweries. Genesee I see was bought by a conglomerate and moved to NJ. Rolling Rock was sold to Anheuser Busch which in turn was sold to the Belgian InBev. I think despite the popularity, Sam Adams still is a good "local" nationwide beer. Ithaca Beer just bought 100 acres on which to expand from microbrewery to craft status. Hopefully they'll reach a higher status as well.
