Huh. I would have expected this attitude for people who consider themselves to be "wage slaves" but not from investors.

I have been a member of two labor unions, Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers, and Lithographers. In the past represented two postal workers unions, American Postal Workers Union and National Association of Letter Carriers. Now represent members of United Food and Commercial Workers, Fraternal Order of Police, Washington Teachers Union, Fire Fighters, as well as smaller ones for electricians, elevator workers, sheet metal workers, and more. I meet with dozens of labor union members every month, hundreds every year, for many years.

Good people. The salt of the earth. The backbone of our society.

What they REALLY want is overtime for hours worked more than 40 hours a week. So that's 40 hours a week at straight time, then time and a half, and for some of them double time, even triple time, depending.

And they really, really love overtime.

The only people I know who want to work just 40 hours a week are people who don't get overtime, and can just leave the job behind when they go home, without a care in the world.

Any American who gets paid more for working more will work more. I have a LOT of clients who work two or even three jobs if they can't get overtime.

The people I see who are living in poverty are ones unwilling or unable to do extra work. I suggest to them that they consider getting a part time job doing something they really like, like working in a veterinarian's office if they love animals, or a florist or plant store if they love plants, or an art gallery if they love art, or as a police dispatcher if they are public service minded, etc. Whatever they can do. There are jobs out there if you are motivated and a willing worker, even if it's just a part time job. Two or three part time jobs will pay the bills.

I've been working since I was 14 (lied and said I was 16) and intend to keep working. I intend to work full time until I am 70 and then continue to work part time until I can't work any more, or die, whichever comes first. If I am in a wheelchair, I will be a lawyer in a wheelchair. As long as the brain holds out.

That's what my heroes did. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, Milton Friedman, Ronald Reagan. Reagan, the brain gave out before the body did, but he was president until age 78. The rest of them did not stop until they died. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

It is well known that people who are highly motivated and conscientious die shortly after retirement. Why would I do that to myself?

Study the history of people who lived to age 100 or more, e.g. Blue Zones. They did not sit around doing nothing. That is certain death.
