A quick follow up on my high pitched squeal coming from the fan of my HP laptop... I sent it back to HP at their cost, they returned it one week to the day and it works without a peep, they replaced the fan and all my data was perfectly intact, nothing was lost... they apparently also replaced the motherboard since the fan is attached to it, but they saved all my data, files, folders, all recent downloads and installations, I'm delighted and very surprised... they also gave me a phone number direct to a tech guy for the next 90 days to discuss the repair just in case the same thing happens again... their laptop may be a real piece of crap, but their service department was top class... next time I'm going with a Macbook Pro, I understand they have no issues ever, unless it's just another case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire...
