BC, why is syncrude not a pollutant? Is it so heavy it won't go anyplace if it spills?

My understanding of syncrude is that it is much like any other oil that is pipelined all over our nation. Dilbit on the other hand is ugly stuff. If we can pipeline crude oil all over the nation without an outcry from the (pick a name - I prefer wackos) why could we not pipeline syncrude?
