A T1 line has a capacity of 1.5 MB/s. So if you have 20 users hanging
on it at the same time you are back at ISDN speed of 64kB/s.

Not exactly a breakthrough. It will take years til the backbones
will be able to support the theoretical peak rate of xdsl. So initially the bandwidth problem will be just shifted from point A to point B. The only positive for an xdsl user is that his modem won't
be outdated for a number of years to come. That is if the providers won't opt for another technology in the meantime.
