I think I hit "why union" in my last post. Crappy administrators are the biggest reason for "why union?" When my admin would not check the air quality in my room, I called my union. I like knowing the union is there- because if they weren't, we teachers would be squeezed as flat as little pancakes by our admin. Teachers already work an enormous amount of time "off the clock", but admin always wants more- the union is there to say "no", and I'm glad they are. Our contracts may not be fabulous (except in the minds of right wing nutcases), but they offer some protection. Without the unions to back up our contracts, they might as well not exist.
