<unfunded welfare state > I have no interest in creating an ever larger welfare state. I am mostly appalled at the extent people will go to conjure images of nobility that are nothing more than deadbeats running away from paying their bills while wrapping themselves in the flag and bleating about 'free enterprise' and their true blue American values. The US has become a society of deadbeats -- deadbeat bankers have become an easy target of late as they did terrible harm to the economy, made out like bandits, and then walked away from the trainwreck they caused without so much as a scratch. I am offended by that. I am offended by deadbeat politicians that advocate tax breaks for people whose only claim on resources is their naked political clout -- the result of living in a poltical environment where our 'leaders' are always up for sale to the highest bidder.

For the purpose of this thread, I am offended by those who would have the rest of us pay thousands of dollars in taxes a year to shoulder the expense of a gas guzzling economy that treats subsidized oil like it was mothers milk, instead of as the carbon spewing source of a range of environmental problems, not to mention wars and their terrible toll on our youth and our finances.

In short, I am tired of being robbed blind by the noble sounding deadbeats that eat like pigs and then look for somebody else to pick up the tab -- the same ones who justify their useless existence by claiming that we would all suffer mightily if they were denied access to the trough -- pigs at the trough. If you don't want to be a deadbeat, stop expecting others to pay your bills. Stop expecting others to subsidize your consumption. Consume all you want -- so long as you pay for it.
