Yes "random" hiring guarantees a minimum of dogma in the school room which is the bane of education, IMO. I have seen a zillion teahers, classrooms and schools. I substituted for a long time. Most teachers are basically fine for the average student including the good, the bad and the ugly. Good for the kids to see and and adapt to a cross section of society.

On the one hand I was generally disappointed in most teachers as I didn't feel they were teaching for the love of it. Just a job to them. But on the other hand, I felt most teachers were OK and pretty much representative of the human species and did a pretty good job.

Point being I don't think the problem with our eucational system is the teachers, I think it is the lack of opportunity. We need universal free education. A society cannot put more money into education than they will get out of it by educating people to think. I would bet for every extra dollar we put into education would be one less dollar we would need to put into police an jails and welfare.

Right now the unemployment rate for college grads is 4.3% and 11% for those without.

.Kids whos parents are dedicated to education generally do just fine regardless of the school or teachers. Jews educate everyone and usually in public schools.

Kids whos parents are not dedicated to education is another problem altogether. The best way to solve that problem is to have free pre school starting at about 2.5 years, at least half time. Once kids or anyone hits a certain critical mass as regards learning they will continue to learn. It is getting them started that is so important. If they get past 6th grade and do not have study habits and confidence in themselves, then you have a real problem.
