Helen Of Troy Expects Record Sales, Earnings For Third Quarter And Year Business Wire - November 19, 1997 08:32 %HELEN-OF-TROY HELE %TEXAS %PHARMACEUTICAL %RETAIL V%BW P%BW Jump to first matched term EL PASO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 19, 1997--Helen of Troy Ltd. (NASDAQ: HELE), producer and worldwide marketer of brand-name personal care products, today reported that it expects record sales and earnings for its third fiscal quarter and year. Sales for the quarter are expected to be approximately 10 percent ahead of prior year sales, with earnings of between 31 and 33 cents per share, versus 28 cents per share for the same quarter last year. Although the company said sales growth for the third quarter could have been higher except for lower than expected production for the acquired lines of products under the Dazey and Dr. Scholl's tradenames, this situation will have no negative impact on the long term growth strategies for those product lines or Helen of Troy as a whole. The company expects production will catch up with orders in the fourth quarter and management expects record results for the full fiscal year ending Feb. 28, 1998. The company will be introducing a full line of new massager products under the Dr. Scholl's tradename at the January Housewares Show and expects to become the branded leader in this category. The company recently announced that it has acquired worldwide rights to market Dr. Scholl's personal care appliances. Helen of Troy's long term growth strategies continue to emphasize product line expansions and business acquisitions that enhance the product offerings that the company brings to the marketplace. Final results for the quarter are expected to be released on Jan. 6, 1998. Helen of Troy designs, produces and markets brand-name hair dryers, curling irons, hair setters, women's shavers, brushes, combs, hair accessories, mirrors, artificial fingernails and "comfort products" such as foot baths. Helen of Troy products are sold primarily through mass merchandisers, drug chains, warehouse clubs and grocery stores, under the trade names Vidal Sassoon, Revlon, Dazey, Dr. Scholl's, and Richard Caruso. The company also markets products under the Helen of Troy, Hot Tools, Salon Edition and Gallery Series trademarks to beauty salon distributors. This press release may contain certain forward-looking statements which are subject to change. The actual results may differ materially from those described in any forward-looking statements. Additional information concerning potential factors that could affect the company's financial results are included in the company's Form 10- K for the year ended February 28, 1997.
