Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you're being had.
Michael Crichton

A consensus means that everyone agrees to say collectively what no one believes individually.
Abba Eban

Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled.
Michael Crichton

Those who know that the consensus of many centuries has sanctioned the conception that the earth remains at rest in the middle of the heavens as its center, would, I reflected, regard it as an insane pronouncement if I made the opposite assertion that the earth moves.
Nicolaus Copernicus

To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects.
Margaret Thatcher

BUTW, sorry for the late reply but…

Obama might have used the term 'settled science", but I don't think he or any other WH people are running around proclaiming "the sky is falling".

I won't call them initiatives, because that infers the initiator is trying to gather consensus. Obama doesn't.

Starting with Obamacare, going forward, every new proposal coming out of the president's (note how I continue to use a lower case "p", when referring to your president) mouth, the tone of delivery is/was/will be, "If you don't do this, this (the falling sky) will occur. Right down to young children in old dilapidated classrooms experiencing breathing difficulties, if you don't pass my stimulus plan.

His delivery is always sent with a healthy dose of "doomsday" will occur if you don't do what I say.

Darth Vapor's doomsday threats just don't set well with me, or for that matter, a majority of the folks out there, as I see it.

If you take issue with my description of The Sky Is Falling terminology, I have no problem coming up with another label. ;-)

On another note, if you'll recall, I asked a question of you week before last, and you said you were busy with the AGW issue. I said okay, I'll get back to you later.

It's now "later" (as a matter of fact, I gave you a couple of extra days). :)

Here's the question to refresh your memory:
What is your opinion of what Krugman said in his latest blog entry under the NYT masthead?

If you remember, Krugman trashed George (the younger) and Rudy, WRT 9/11.

Awaiting your considered thoughts.
