bill c: I'm ecstatic! Nixing the AMTX deal was the best thing that could have happened for WSTL. Nice breakup fee - all expenses paid - favored technology access - eliminates an assured long-term negative cash flow distraction and refocuses on the true core competency. Chip technology comes and goes - did not predict to be a moneymaker for WSTL, nor did it make sense, WSTL can buy and adopt new chip technology at commodity price levels. AMTX was a dog that would have never been able to hunt. It's quite possible that WSTL saw the handwriting on the wall for AMTX after the continued growing losses AMTX just reported. AMTX already had borrowed $3 million of the $5 loan from WSTL and was likely to become toast without WSTL and/or TI - WSTL probably began to realize that AMTX's losses would trash their balance sheet. TI probably stepped in when a technology that they've got a comittment in needed to be supported. I'm less than enthusiastic about the delivery of promises by management, however, and therefore remain reserved in my view of near term prospects for investment return outperformance by WSTL.
