From 1933 thru 1936, Keynesian economics worked well. The unemployment rate dropped by a huge amount. Then, in 1937 they tried to reduce the deficit and the country fell back into depression.

When Roosevelt came in in 1933, unemployment was 25% and went down to 14% by 1937.
