It's properly called a semi-log chart, since it's only the price axis that is logarithmic. Whether a semi-log chart is much different from a linear chart is only dependent on the range of price, not time. If the price traverses several orders of magnitude within 3 years, the chart will be hugely different between the two. Alternately, if the price remains within an order of magnitude over 20 years, it will make little difference which chart type is used to display the data.
