The government is the countries biggest employer. How do you change that?

The same way it happens in the real business world - cut their income - i.e. reduce taxes. They will inevitably have to down size in order to keep from going bankrupt. The last thing we need is a bunch of cheerleaders for higher taxes to keep funding their reckless spending and growth.

I have to agree...spending must be cut...but the rub is what to cut. The space program has been decimated because it has no constituency...now the Russian's rockets are blowing up and the space station might have to be abandoned. The government is the countries biggest employer. How do you change that?

The space program is already gone. Remember, NASA is in charge of muslim outreach now.

On another thread, I actually came up with almost a trillion dollars worth of programs to cut.

But you ask a very important question: "How do you change that?" (the government being the biggest employer). And realistically, the answer is "slowly". We didn't get into this situation overnight and it isn't going to be fixed overnight. But we can certainly stop adding to the problem and let attrition start the process of shrinking the government jobs.

And we need to encourage businesses to invest in growth. We need to encourage businesses to bring home money that is parked in foreign accounts rather than forcing them to leave the money overseas because of excess taxes. The only way to get government employees out of the government jobs is to make an environment that is friendly to creating jobs in the private sector. We don't do that with more corporate taxes. We do it with less.

So you are right, it isn't as easy as just slashing and burning government jobs. There has to be a place for those people to go. And creating a friendly environment for business is the only way to create the jobs and opportunities that offsets the government workers returning to the conventional workforce.
