Don't know about blood, but Turkey's assertiveness under Erdogan is a tectonic shift. Turning away from seeing their future in Europe, and focusing on the Muslim world. Like the Ottomans. Not much has been heard recently about the application to join the EU, it was a burning issue until 2-3 years ago.
