Z, > Consumer confidence IS an ephemeral feeling!

If true, then liberalism is an ephemeral feeling ...

Consumer confidence IS an ephemeral feeling! But the way our economy has been formed since World War II, it's an incredibly important one.

The Obama stimulus plan did nothing for my level of consumer confidence. It was clear to have only marginal effect when details became known. The test of the ephemeral feeling nature of consumer confidence will be in the few months following the 2012 election. If the Republicans win and also control the Senate with 55+ seats,
I think consumer confidence could sky rocket. It will depend on the extent of the victory, how sweeping the new direction will be, how successful the Republicans can hold their majority together, and to what extent the Democrats choose to block their path despite a second landmark election. This all assumes that conditions do not markedly improve and does not preclude an actual second recession next year. The chances of one look more real every day. (423,000 new jobless claims last week) With a second recession next year, things could get really ugly. Under such conditions, if the Democrats in the Senate block a new agenda (as they probably can with a blanket filibuster)........I think all hell breaks loose.

P.S. Is there any chance of 60 Republicans in the Senate? I see where Dick Morris says yes but I can't see my way past 55 in the best case scenario.
