Not really the best time to see even more rising rates in obesity as we rank still #1 in more ways than one in the US as this skyrockets along with our huge dependency on caffein in many forms (our 2nd largest import=coffee). Just one Hansen's Monster 'Energy' Soda has more calories than a 6pack of glazed donuts & as much caffein as 3cups of coffee & kids drink tons of it . What has been something of real note since 9/11 has been this overwhelming flood of horror/macabre , shock-kill, ghost, end of the world disaster movies with graphic death & violence commonplace ... that would never have passed the censors before 9/11 which now viewable on the big screen . One of the latest big budget films to hit the Big Screen now deals with global pandemic threat called "Contagion. This last decade since the "terrrorist's threat" & homeland security alarms have produced really significant changes reflecting profoundly all these percieved external threats which always follows war but this has been an exceptional decade of rising fear and big changes in the cultural & psychological landscape . Last night went to see the remake of Straw Dogs now set in the deep south (bad film, miscast more made for TV)this film does have just about every cliche of the fundamentalist , violent, ignorant underbelly of the deep southern small town stereotype , though alot of great people in the south there still is an intense love affair with violence & worship of it throughout society now , grown especially poignant since going to war ...a natural offshoot of War . The effect on popular Films people flock too has been overwhelming and gotten overwhelmingly darker & intensely graphic with torture & murder at every turn .
