"Self delusion as winning strategy." I have been saying for years that denial (aka self-delusion) is the strongest force in the Universe.

Without denial all living creatures would hide in little holes so that predators could not find them. Without denial we'd never get married, never have children. Without denial we'd never invest, because that entails risk.

Without denial I'd never drive on the Beltway.
