I described consumer confidence as "ephemeral" because it can easily disappear. That does not mean it has to. But if someone is worried about whether he or she is going to have a job, he or she is not going to spend any money he or she does not have to. If he or she expects to have a job in the future, he is not as tight with his spending. When a person sees that money is going to places that will preserve his job or the jobs of those around him, he worries less. It's totally logical thinking. When that happens on a grand scale, it helps the economy.

What part of that don't you get?
