Respond to of 224744 Joe, The guy sponsoring it told him that if he would write a check for $2,000 he would reimburse him. My friend didn't do it. Did the republicans use this technique at your event. As law abiding Republican's, we did not ask, nor did we want to know how those receiving the $1,000 a plate dinner sold their tickets. All we asked of the power figures (most corporate heads) of the Bogey Club, "would you be willing to help us sell tickets to the fundraiser." We further explained that there were 25, $1,000 tickets in each book for him/her to sell . . could we send you out 5 books of 25 tickets. . . Naturally, we stated that we will need the signature of the purchaser on the back of the ticket." It was up to the individual selling the tickets as how the tickets were sold. If I recall correctly, most took 3 books of tickets to sell. Our big concern was about receiving the $250,000 from the fundraiser and then enrolling helpers to handle office work and getting out the vote on election day. Any person, who does not believe that money influences politics and elections just does not know politics and how politicians, IMO, are influenced. Campaigns (polling, campaign workers, media coverage and getting out the vote) cost huge amounts of money. It is reported that Obama will need $2 billion to return him to office, and that is in addition to his incumbent free air time to get out his message. I can not imagine how much money it is going to cost to elect an opponent running against our President. But, huge amounts of cash has to be coming into the campaign in addition to the money spent in the primary race by the Republicans. But, if the corporations want to get rid of regulations, obtain right to work states, eliminate pro-life and embryonic stem cell research and firearm legislation the far right Republicans will have pay the tab.
