Myopic views of the past come haunting Europeans. For reasons which can certainly use close psychological inquiry the West seems to suffer deep anxieties about the precariousness of its civilization and to have a need for constant reassurance by comparison with Africa. (Chinua Achebe) I have a German good friend of mine telling me a year ago on Skype: "We are now a banana republic" He did not write: Germany is now a banana republic. He wrote 'we'. In the past, for Europeans, economic troubles were a thing that happened over there. Faraway from home and totally disconnected from their private lives. Until Great Unwinding... My German friend is obviously exagerating. I sense that the comparison the European were doing in their minds result of the deep anxieties about the precariousness of its civilization now became real. Thus the logical conclusion is: Now we are one of them. MQ, no. MQ clings to certain beliefs -VVV- that he is not one of them, now. He clings to spurious belief that tech is a result of superior minds and that superiority the shirtless la bas cannot have. The Europeans are more advanced than MQ in this respect. They already know what the future reserves to them.
