Her maybe able to spot them but he cannot exploit them any more due to BRK size. BRK size reduces the the universe of stock investments to multi B$ companies. That is one reason why he prefers to buy entire companies, but that downside of that is that he needs to buy them at a premium to market value. The BNSF deal looks OK and even great especially when comparing to holding cash, the Lubrizol deal just looks OK.

What he has not done but should have, imo is to court foreign companies as well as buying foreign stocks to expand his investment universe. He has done some of this (BYD, Tesco, Guinness, ISCAR Petrochina ) but not enough to move the needle substantially. I believe many of us have an edge due to being more nimble and having a larger universe of investment opportunities (small/medium cap and international stocks)
