No they won't do a repeat of the Sept. Conference. They were *shocked they say* at the effect it had.

It's not entirely their fault. The shorts decided to pounce on the shares and the analysts played their games. CYMI was just trying to play it straight and didn't realize the end result.

It reminds me of a story from the CEO of INTEL back at least 10-15 years ago. Intel used to do conference calls on the West Coast every Friday, or something like that. They wanted to pump up the struggling stock by being open with analysts and gain attention. Well, one call they mentioned there was a slight slowdown but that it should be temporary. The analysts on the West Coast immediately decided to start dumping stock. Those on the East Coast that didn't hear the news and were PISSED. The stock dropped something like 20-30% and Intel was upset that everyone over reacted. From that point on Intel decided to speak less freely. You hear that Cymer....? Intel 101, a good course. :-)

Aloha

It's all in how you choose to look at it. Cymer (or any company) is ultimately responsible to its shareholders.

If one of Cymer's customers tripped over its own shoelaces, I believe
Cymer would be showing extremely good faith by dropping everything to
focus on that customer's needs. Treating each customer like the apple
of your eye is just plain good business. Without good business, you
have already failed your shareholders -- it's simply a matter of time
before it shows.

If Cymer bails yet again on all the hand-shaking, back-patting stuff
to attend to more important business, would I be upset? NO. I like
where their priorities lie.

Don't tell me you care more about appearances than what's under the
hood. Eh?

Dina.

<<But their abrupt pullout of that conference in September screwed every single shareholder. Other than that, the fundamentals are
excellent>>

When are you guys going to wake up and smell the coffee? The famous pullout had no effect other than to put an end to a ridiculous momentum run-up. If you really think that's why the stock is trading in the low 20's, you need to work a little harder on your investment research. This constant harping on that silly incident with Montgomery is blinding people to the root causes of the decline in Cymer's price.

The stock price has fallen because of fundamentals. The likelihood of industry demand (for 248nm lasers in the next 6 months) meeting the expectations generated a few months ago is now quite small. It has nothing to do with Cymer. They are essentially a sub-component manufacturer for a product that isn't getting sold as fast as had been hoped.
