<Shorting Semis into 4th qtr. is a dangerous game> Shorting in October has been a profitable game, many years. I expect the upcoming earning season, for the market as a whole, and semis particularly, to be ugly. What fraction of companies will be raising guidance? Maybe 2%. Many, many more will be lowering guidance. Earnings expectations are way too optimistic, given macro conditions. I'll be much more cautious shorting, when we get below my SPX 1020 target Message 27561146 When financials start outperforming, and consumer staples stop outperforming, I'll stop shorting.
