I think you are BSing yourself. The only near-certain negative coming out of QNTM right now is they will write down some inventories. My sense is that SEG has indeed gone from 80% market share to 50% as one of the analysts who downgraded suggested (I think it was Takata).

Things are bad all around, and there may in fact be some shortfall for QNTM but to pre-announce in the middle of the quarter would require a very poor situation. You can get sued for being wrong both ways -- positive and negative, even with safe harbor.

SEG on the other hand is really hurting. I'm staying with it till next year, but not very happily.

Re: QNTM silence

You said:
QNTM is B.S.ing with their last announcement that everything is O.K. We will have some type of bad earning announcement from them soon as well.

Do you have evidence to back this up? QNTM derives a large part of their earnings from non-HDD business, nor are they as exposed to the stiffest price wars occuring in the low end of the capacity spread. It's quite reasonable that they may not be as hard hit THIS quarter as WDC and SEG.

Furthermore HDD sales are back end loaded which reduces visibility for the management.

Quantum issued ana annoucemnt of layoffs today. I do not know at what time nor the magnitude. They would not be laying off if business was "brisk". Glenn
