Bill, I like your thoughts... but I think the issue that makes it all fall apart is that Amati is worth more than $20/share. If TI eventually has to pay $30 or more than it may be fair and a good deal for TI/AMTX/WSTL. For some reason, I do not think the bidding is over.

TI's stock continues to rise today and that indicates to me they didn't pay enough! They should be made to PAY dearly for Amati. Amati's management sold out at too low a price and did not represent the best interests of their shareholders.

Bill, that's right! Amati/Westell synergies were positively there. BUT...

The problem has been the size:

1) Amati/Westell has a good reputation in the ADSL market, but this market is just developing, so this reputation goes as far as what they represent.

2)Their finacial ability is not a match for what is required to take the ADSL market to a masss produced ubiquitous presence.

3)TI gives both companies a start up access to its already established political/stratigic global network as well as to finacial assistance in alliances, or other type of indirect connections.

I think this is a good begining towards a resolution to Westell/Amati's capacity to access and compete with larger network markets as ADSL is another effective way to inter-connetions of many other types.
