You hit the nail on the head, precisely and succinctly.

Sioux,
I'll tell you where Obama went wrong. Really, he made a tactical blunder of monumental proportions. When he was elected, he was riding an incredible GLOBAL wave of good feeling. He had a mandate for action unlike any I've seen in my lifetime. His first move needed to be big and bold, and it needed to make a statement that would unify our country across red and blue boundaries. So what did he do? He tackled Healthcare.

God Almighty. Of all things to tackle first. At the time, over 75% of Americans wanted Obama to tackle a Manhattan project on renewable energy to help us get onto the path of energy independence. That was one course he could have taken that would have been unifying. Or he could have picked several other tasks to rack up the wins and solidify his credentials.

Instead, the very first thing he did was declare open warfare on the GOP and permanently divided the country. In the process, he opened the gates to the radical right. Everything has been downhill for Obama since then.

Bill Clinton was a more astute politician. He tackled Healthcare too, but then he realized it was a loser and he pivoted to the economy. Smart man. It got him re-elected. What do we all remember Clinton for? Yes, there's Monica Lewinsky. But most of us remember the Clinton era as the last good economic times. The Great Moderation and the Peace Dividend. We won't see those days again for awhile.
