My dad sold cars and he got me a nice VW when I entered college. $1,300. I did pay for it. He was not a generous man.

I drove it all the way through college with very few problems and put a ton of miles on it. Best car I ever owned.

I knew it was a funky setup. I was remembering it as front wheel drive, rear engine, which always seemed silly to me. Often I find that when I think something is stupid, it's not the thing that is the problem.

Sigh.
