That is why he opposes the killing of an American citizen without due process. I understand his position, but I'm not sure I totally agree. 99% of Americans will agree that Al Qaeda is our enemy. That American terrorist joined Al Qaeda against us. In my book, we are allowed to retaliate with terminal force. However, here's something for you to ponder. We have just set the precedent where an American President can unilaterally decide who is an enemy of the state and then order that citizen's killing at home or abroad, without due process. What if those protests on Wall Street start to spread and become a national protest? What if this American President decides that one or more of those American citizens is an enemy of the state? What if he then orders the killing of one or more of them? Would you be shocked and demand an accounting? All of this is a very slippery slope, my friend. I never thought we'd be having these kinds of discussions in the US. Of course, if you'd told me 4 years ago that I'd watch as the Federal Reserve engaged in wholesale theft from the American people to recapitalize the banks and turned our stock market and economy into a Centrally Planned Communist Economy, I would have told you "bullshit...not here in the US." If you would have told me 10 years ago that I'd be searched without a warrant at airports and that my private communications could be monitored without a warrant, I would have told you "bullshit...not here in the US." If you would have told me 4 years ago that elected officials like Gov. Bev Purdue of NC would explicitly call for suspending elections in the mistaken notion that the government knows better about how to solve problems than the electorate, I would have told you "bullshit...not here in the US." And yet, here we are. All of those things happened. I take my Constitutional rights very seriously. Everyone here should as well. We are seeing our rights as codified in the Constitution being eroded at an alarming pace. If we let exigent circumstances lead us to decisions that violate the principles in our Constitution, then we will find ourselves without any Constitutional protections at all. Ben Franklin said something to the following effect that was very relevant to today's circumstances: "Those who would trade freedom for more security deserve neither freedom nor security." Truer words were never spoken. All of you should be very afraid. Even the US can crumble. We're not immune.
