Dale, do your DD and read the thread back a few months then decide which way you are going to go. No two traders are alike. Are you going to daytrade or simply manage your long term investments? Do you need a broker that you can count on getting through to on the phone? If one of Datek's Servers starts acting up, are you Internet Savvy enough to jump around to their other servers. And, if something goes wrong, do you have the patience and determnation to try to resolve it through arbitration?

The above are questions you should ask of any broker and of yourself, in addition to contacting the Disclosures office to get more background info.

Contact the NASD Regulation Public Disclosure Phone Center toll-free at (800) 289-9999 to learn whether the broker or the brokerage firm is or has been the subject of a disciplinary action, an arbitration decision, civil judgments involving securities matters, criminal indictments, or has pending formal disciplinary proceedings by the SEC, NASD Regulation, other self-regulatory organizations, or the states.

Dale,

No charge for limit orders at Datek. Check out this link for an independent rating of online brokers: gomezadvisors.com

FYI, I use Datek and Web Street Securities. Datek is faster, but Web Street is fast too. If you trade in 1000 share or greater increments of Nasdaq stock the trade is free with Web Street, so I use them when trading the lower price stocks. Price improvement on limit orders between the spread are about equal with either broker.
