obama ran against the guy who was not running, george bush. no excuses for obama were made. what you speak of are the counterattacks dems made when republicans raised the issue of experience. in the primaries against clinton the experience issue was made by clinton, but obama supporters simply did not care.

there is no doubt experience was an issue, but the majority of voters did not care at all in 2008. even in 2012 if it weren't for bad experience, obama would still have no experience.

the issue in 2012 is obama's policies, and obama is running. who has better policies that are clear and understandable for the republicans should be the issue for the republican primaries.

You are right, as I recall, hiring "good" advisors was indeed the excuse for choosing the inexperienced Obama. However, they all work through advisors and delegations of power. Obama picked a team which reflected his beliefs and his personality. If Cain would do the same, it may prove to be pretty good.

Experience is important, but only if it is experience in following the right principles. Reagan had strong beliefs and a solid philosophy, and was not afraid to to tell his advisors, when needed, to take a hike. Having served as Governor must have helped, but ultimately it was a matter of wisdom, vision and principles.
