I'm sure it's a bit more complicated than this (although maybe not)

Economy is about human beings and about human rights. We need to dump many of the "ruling" models and theories, and go back to simple principles, like Thou Shalt Not Steal. And - voila! - suddenly, excessive borrowing would become unacceptable, since borrowing without an intent to pay back is nothing but thievery.

If we decide to follow this principle, we'd need to moderate a great amount of activity consisting of taking from Peter to give Paul. In other words, much of the government would need to shrink.

Also, about the corporatist malaise.... Many people will complain that corporations have bought off the government. Maybe so, but the root of the problem is in uncontrolled political power. If a politician would not have the power to deliver unfair advantage, corporations would not bother paying him off.

Many of these issues, with all their complexity, deep down actually may be quite simple... :)
