Peak oil seems very different than global warming. The idea that oil is finite seems credible and that is the cornerstone of peak oil thought. I think it is fair to say that what that finite amount actually is, is not known and thus the timing of a potential peak oil crisis can not be known with any certainty. So, new discoveries, which are certain in many places, extend the oil age. But because oil remains finite, the anticipated decline of the oil age happens eventually.
