I meant asset classes, not individual stocks and issues, although the tide certainly lifts all boats
to a degree. You can certainly find successful companies during bad times.
Likewise, stocks to short during good times. For me personally gold is an insurance policy.

I agree with you, the man is completely clueless about gold, but he probably
lets his MBAs blow money on puts. At times zero return is better than negative
return. Will he buy it at the top? -g- Then again, I always measure return in gold
terms, so, for me the return of gold itself is always zero. Say, if the DOW is going up, the
dollar is dropping, and gold is on the move higher, while DOW/gold ratio
is dropping, then for me the DOW performance and return on investment is negative. -g-
