U.S. stocks shake off most losses after ISM

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks brushed aside Wednesday losses to edge mildly higher after a gauge of non-manufacturing activity in September proved better than anticipated. The Dow Jones Industrial Average /quotes/zigman/627449/delayed DJIA +0.28% rose 37.62 points to 10,845.57. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index /quotes/zigman/3870025 SPX +0.31% added 3.5 points to 1,127.5. The Nasdaq Composite Index /quotes/zigman/123127 COMP +0.76% climbed a fraction to 2,404.91
