I absolutely agree!

The end of denial! I've had people tell me that they didn't want to talk about it... too depressing. They'd rather stick their head in the sand.

This book, written by two social historians in 1997, predicted the crisis and shows the patterns of human behavior in 80 year cycles going back to the American Revolution and beyond.

An overlong and not exactly fun to read book, but according to them there is a catalyst (2008 IMO) which signals the beginning of the crisis. One to four years later begins what they academically refer to as "the regeneracy", which is (as you call it) the end of denial... people leave fear behind as they are energized by their collective anger. Instead of problems being described as less than than what they are, suddenly people are ready to deal with the real problems and in their zeal actually begin to describe them as worse than they are. Out of all this eventually comes a new social contract.

I continue to recommend the excellent documentary "Inside Job" which tells the story of how Wall Street bankrupted the world.
