Somehow, it doesn't surprise me that you would pick that particular statistic to highlight. The more significant number to focus on is the relative difference in pay between 1980 and 2009. Despite the large decline, it is still more than 4x what it was in 1980.

But of course, that is because executives were eating more spinach after 1980, and became stronger, smarter and more deserving of absurdly high salaries.

I hadn't realized it either. Those poor people. How are they managing to make ends meet when they're only making 250+ times more than the average worker?
