The weather is supposed to warm up next week, so much of the snow below 10,000' should be gone by the time I go up. My goal is to get above the snowline to check out my gear while it is still relatively mild. There's not enough snow for snowshoes or crampons yet, and hopefully I don't have to worry about crusty snow. If the going gets too rough, I'll do what you did....pitch the tent, spend the night and head down.
