<<Obama had a multicultural upbringing that was unique. That makes HIM unique. I'm often struck by how different blacks from other countries, that weren't raised in the shadow of slavery and Jim Crow are from American blacks. But, Obama isn't one of them either.

Yes, that is what the right wing either can't get or won't get. Our society really beat down the African American and what we progressives understand is that our society owes a debt to them. I always hear the right winger say: "I didn't do it", no you didn't (maybe-lol) but your society did. And your society owes the debt. They do not seem to understand they live in a society. Too large a concept I guess.

But what I see has nothing to do with race per se. What I notice is that he surrounds himself with people I really don't much like. Politico's and status seekers. Clinton was too much of a politico for me too.

I want a Robert Kennedy, or someone who is self actualized enough to resist the trappings of power and status and can selflessly fight for the people. Like FDR and TR did. They went against their class which was huge in those days. Obama seems to be Ok with the Rahms, Sperlings, Daley's, Geithner's, Summers and others like them.

The idealists have all fled for the hills. He needs to hire Moyers, Reich, Krugman and Stiglitz and Volker-lol.

To beat a dead horse.

<<<Obama isn't one of them either.>>>

I agree. Obama is a unique individual. But we know he is smart and we know he is well read. We know his political philosophy.

What I don't know is if he has the fire in the belly to be anything like his soaring rhetoric would have us believe. I think he will come up a bit short as far as the fire in the belly thing goes. But even if he comes a bit short, he is our best hope, by far.

As far as Bill Clinton goes, for me he comes up short on the character aspect of his personality and is likely to sell us out over some vanity issue.
