I will be watching this deal with great interest. As many on this board might remember the BHP-POT bid. A foreign interest owning Canadian natural resource assets. The size here might be ok. given Sinopec Corp's (600028.SS) $4.65 billion acquisition of ConocoPhillips' (COP.N) stake in the Syncrude Canada oil sands venture. Encana's C$5.4 billion deal with Petro China was a joint venture not a acquisition. That deal fell apart, although I believe Canadian regulatory approval was needed.
