I agree with you but what was the benefit of permitting cop's sale of its interest in Syncrude? That was more reserves than Daylight lays claim to.

The immediate "net benefit" to Canada is that it validates Alberta's oilpatch and opens the door to both globalization and foreign investment in our otherwise insular business.

Would the idea of "net benefit to Canada" be any different if a large American company was doing this same deal instead of a Chinese one?
You bet it would!

IMO, the view of net benefit that you outline represents economic racism.

This DAY deal is important to the resolution of the Keystone dilemma for the US. It's a powerful reminder that Canada has options other than meekly being price takers for resources. The Northern Gateway is not going to happen for many reasons, but the talk about moving oil EAST is very interesting.
