Peralta and VMart were both All Stars in 2011 and they helped the Tigers get into the post season...now, let's see if they can come up with a few more big clutch hits in this ALCS -- it might be nice to have a World Series made up of Midwestern teams...=)

Facing Chapman, Hitters Don't Stand a Chance It doesn't take fancy statistics to figure out that Cincinnati Reds setup man Aroldis Chapman has so far had an impressive season. He hadn't allowed a single run in 17 2/3 innings (through Sunday) and was striking out nearly 16 batters per nine innings. If he can keep this up, Chapman has a chance to become the most unhittable pitcher in baseball history. Major-league hitters have struggled to even put the ball in play against Chapman, a 24-year-old lefty who throws 100 miles per hour. Entering Monday, he had faced 64 batters and struck out 31—or 48.4%. In the last 90 years, no pitcher has come close to striking batters out at such a rate. Aroldis Chapman of the Cincinnati Reds Among pitchers who threw at least 50 innings in a season, former Dodgers closer Eric Gagne holds the record for strikeout percentage, fanning 44.8%. Gagne converted 55 consecutive save opportunities that year, striking out 137 batters in 82 1/3 innings. Six other pitchers have crossed the 40% barrier, including the Dodgers' Kenley Jansen (44%) and the Braves' Craig Kimbrel (41.5%) last season. Chapman is currently on pace to throw 86 2/3 innings. Since 1921, only one pitcher with at least 85 innings struck out more than 40% of batters he faced: the Astros' Brad Lidge, who K'd 157 of 369 hitters in 2003 (42.5%). —Jared Diamond
