'Twain' - good example, note he didn't write under the name his mother gave him, yet we know what the latter was -g- ... and he never sounded to me like a person who wanted anyone else to interpret history for him, or 'teach' him how to interpret, which amounts to the same thing, and he definitely wouldn't have wanted to see any of those facts concealed, no matter how dry ... no doubt he expanded on that statement somewhat later, at least mentally

I agree with arno, something is lost when record of nick changes is hidden, ideally the full history should be accessible ... with one reason only for exception - where a poster has originally signed in with his/her 'real name', which opens up security issues, this part of his/her history could be redacted by admin on case-specific basis
