It is democracy, but apparently not the kind you like.

Actually, it's a Representative Republic, modeled more after Rome, than Greece.

But suffice it to say that the only thing that separates us from tyranny is the existence of popular suffrage (voting and elections).

As for the electoral college, I think it should be recalled that at the founding of our country only white males who owned property could vote. Therefore, the electoral college was rather efficient and useful since very few individuals were actually needing representation. Additionally, the lack of mass communication made it practical.

So I'm not sure about it's continued utility, but it really has not been an issue in an election for many years.

As for the OWS protestors, I believe they are being manipulated by the liberals/left as a rival to the Tea Party and capture some campaign energy from the right. And so long as they remain non-violent, I have no problem.. It's what the American system is all about.

One of the great things about the US Constitution is that the big states don't have any more power to elect the President than the small ones.
Not following your logic on that... unless all small states band together...

Go states rights!

Certainly a profound value judgement that this is a good thing.

Absolutely flies in the face of any concept of fair and equal representation.

But fairness is in the minds of the players and the pigs who have the control and the money would certainly agree with you, and all of that other Ayn Rand bullshit too.....
