I didn't catch that it was an e-mail. If so, it is a scam. IRS does not use e-mail due to the tax information secrecy requirements of Sec. 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code. I remarked to one of the folks at the hospital yesterday that it would be much more convenient if they would communicate by e-mail. Response was that they have to take steps to protect patient confidentiality and have concerns it would be compromised through e-mail. That damn HIPAA law again.
